Do All of Your Products Contain Beeswax?

A question we sometimes get asked is, “Do all of your products contain beeswax?” And the simple answer is no.

We use beeswax in our face creams, body butters, aftershave balm, and lip balm, but everything else we make is beeswax free.

The Magic of Beeswax

Beeswax is a miracle of nature. It’s what honeybees use to build their hives, forming the intricate hexagonal honeycomb structures that store their honey and protect their young. It’s naturally antibacterial, hydrating, protective, and, crucially for us, the best and most eco-friendly natural alternative to synthetic waxes.

In the world of commercial skincare, synthetic waxes are used to create texture, lock in moisture, and give products a luxurious feel. But many of these waxes are by-products of the petroleum industry. Beeswax, on the other hand, is completely natural, skin-friendly, and, as an added bonus, it has a truly noble scent.

Why We Use It in Our Skincare

The reason we include beeswax in our face creams, body butters, aftershave balm, and lip balm is simple. It adds a beautiful texture to our creams and provides a natural, breathable barrier for the skin.

This barrier helps to lock in moisture without clogging pores, making it ideal for protecting against dryness and irritation. It also contains Vitamin A, which supports skin regeneration and helps to keep your complexion soft and healthy. We’ve had many responses from happy customers who’ve used our bees...

In our lip balm, beeswax plays an extra special role. It helps create that smooth, soothing texture, sealing in moisture to prevent chapped lips. Unlike petroleum-based lip balms, which can feel greasy or overly thick, beeswax melts beautifully into the skin, leaving your lips hydrated and comfortable without that sticky or artificial feel. Also, a beeswax-based lip balm doesn’t have to be applied every five minutes. Two or three times per day will suffice.

Unlike synthetic waxes, beeswax works in harmony with your skin, allowing it to breathe while still keeping hydration levels high. That’s why it’s such a fantastic ingredient for nourishing and protecting the skin—especially in harsh weather. If you’ve ever applied one of our body butters and felt that lovely, long-lasting softness, or used our lip balm and noticed how it actually heals your lips instead of just sitting on top of them, you’ve got beeswax to thank for that.

A Bit of History

Beeswax has been used in skincare for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians were among the first to recognise its benefits, using it as a base for their cosmetics, balms, and medicinal ointments. Cleopatra herself—who knew a thing or two about skincare—was said to have used beeswax in her beauty treatments. The Romans took things even further, mixing beeswax with olive oil to create one of the earliest versions of cold cream, a formula still used in modern skincare today.

In medieval Europe, beeswax was highly prized not just for its skincare benefits but for its role in medicine. Physicians would mix it with herbs and oils to create healing salves, using it to treat burns, wounds, and chapped skin. It was even used in candle-making because of its clean, slow burn and pleasant scent—long before paraffin wax came along and took over.

An Eco-Friendly Superstar

Beeswax isn’t just good for your skin—it’s also incredibly kind to the environment. Unlike synthetic waxes, which are often made from fossil fuels, beeswax is completely renewable. Bees produce it naturally as part of their hive-building process, and ethical beekeeping ensures that it’s harvested sustainably, with enough left behind for the colony to thrive.

Because it’s biodegradable, it doesn’t leave behind any harmful residues, unlike synthetic waxes that can contribute to pollution. In fact, if you were to throw a beeswax-based product into your garden compost bin, it would eventually break down and return to the earth without a trace.

The Final Word

So, while not all of our products contain beeswax, the ones that do benefit hugely from its nourishing, protective, and environmentally friendly properties. We use it because it’s a high-quality, natural ingredient that does the job beautifully, without the need for synthetic alternatives.

If it was good enough for Cleopatra, the Romans, and medieval herbalists, we reckon it’s good enough for us.
