If you’ve been using our products for a while, you might have noticed a recent shift in a couple of our formulae. After long and careful consideration, we’ve chosen to switch to refined organic shea butter and deodorised organic cocoa butter.
Why?
Because of global shortages in cocoa butter and the knock-on effects on unrefined shea butter, the consistency in quality in these products became very unpredictable, which left us no alternative but to make a change.

Virgin Organic Unrefined Shea Butter vs. Refined Organic Shea Butter
Unrefined shea butter is a beautiful ingredient in its rawest form, rich in vitamins and antioxidants, with that unmistakable nutty aroma. But, as lovely as it is, it can and does come with certain challenges.
The texture, scent, and colour can vary quite a bit from batch to batch, which can make it difficult to maintain consistency. Because it hasn’t been processed to remove certain natural compounds, it has a shorter shelf life and is more prone to oxidisation over time. Some people also find that it takes longer to absorb, and for those with sensitive skin, the naturally occurring plant residues can sometimes cause irritation.
Refined organic shea butter, on the other hand, undergoes a gentle filtration process that removes unwanted impurities while keeping all the nourishing fatty acids intact. This means a silkier, more uniform texture that glides effortlessly onto the skin. The improved stability and longer shelf life mean your skincare stays fresher for longer.
The colour is more consistent, and because it has a neutral scent, the essential oils we blend into our formulations carry the scent exactly as I designed them. It’s also gentler on the skin, making it ideal for anyone who experiences sensitivities.
